The attorneys in Williams & Hunt's medical malpractice defense group have a wealth of experience defending physicians in Salt Lake City and throughout Utah in a wide variety of medical malpractice claims.

Medical malpractice defense work has been the bedrock of our firm since its inception. In 1978 our lawyers helped create the Utah Medical Insurance Association (UMIA), Utah's physician owned professional liability carrier that insures 70% of the state's physicians, and became the UMIA's lead defense lawyers and general counsel.  The UMIA encouraged us to form Williams & Hunt in 1991 and it became our largest client providing over half of the firm's work.  We have since defended more Utah physicians than any other firm in the community and are considered the premier medical malpractice firm in the state.  Because of our relationship with the UMIA we limit our representation to UMIA insured physicians.

As general counsel to the UMIA we provide a broad range of legal services, participate on numerous Boards and committees, and are active in risk management activities and programs for physicians throughout the state.  In litigation matters, we defend UMIA insured physicians in diverse medical specialties against malpractice claims, handling all phases of litigation including trials, appeals, and settlements.
